I was born in the small town of Grand Island New York which is nestled between Niagara Falls and Buffalo. I received my undergraduate degree in Special Education from Buffalo State College in May of 1997. I've been married for 17 wonderful years to my husband and best friend -- Paul Dugas.
Paul has worked in IT for the past 20 years and is currently going back to Georgia State University for his Masters of Business Administration in Marketing. In addition, he is co-owner of a commercial flooring company. He is always driven to work hard and he inspires me every day.
Although Paul and I do not have any children, we are the parents to an adorable 8 year old "dogger" named Baylee.
I began my teaching career in Atlanta as a long-term substitute with Rockdale County Public Schools in 1998. I was immediately offered a full-time kindergarten position and I've been in Rockdale ever since. I taught kindergarten for another 10 years and was grade-level chair for 5 of those years. In 2007, J.H. House faculty voted me Teacher of the Year. It was an incredible honor to be recognized in such a way. For the 2008-2009 school year I switched to 1st grade, enjoyed it, and stayed a total of 5 fun-filled years. Since my strength as a teacher has always been to my ability to help those children that are falling behind, I switched to EIP for grades K-2 in 2014 and I'm currently in that same position as EIP chair.
I've really enjoyed my time working for Rockdale County Public Schools. It saddens me to have to move on, but Paul and I moved to Roswell late last summer and the commute this year has been very difficult. It's time I found a position in a school a little closer to home where I can refocus my commitment and dedicate my time and energy for years to come.
